Who We Are
Pittsburgh’s all-inclusive line dancing, waltzing, and 2-stepping community
Our mission is to provide the LGBTQ+ population of Pittsburgh with dance events that build an active, thriving and inclusive community. We come together to dance, socialize, and have fun! Don’t worry if you’ve never danced before, everyone is welcome regardless of skill level.
Our Community
Dancing is our primary activity, but the best attribute of 412Step is the community and connections that are made and maintained through our events. We strive to create a low-key and welcoming environment where all dance levels feel comfortable.
Participation
Watching works, but participation is the best practice. Don’t know a line dance? Don’t hesitate to jump into a line and go for it! We all miss steps and lose track of walls. It’s part of the fun! Take a pause, catch the beat, and hop right back in.
Attire
We’re an informal group, and most dancers wear jeans and a T to our events. Western wear is certainly welcome. Wearing cowgirl and cowboy boots with leather soles will help your feet slide more easily. Boots are not required, but they are fun!
Schedule
While each dance evolves with the vibe of the crowd, typical events start with open dancing and a primary lesson for the night shortly after. The rest of the evening is a combination of partner, line and social dances with occasional reviews when requested.
Lead or follow
At 412Step events, anyone can be a leader or a follower…or both! Founded in the LGBTQA+ community, we encourage all dancers to experiment with the lead and follow role and to dance with anyone…and everyone!
